Why most of our Customer Discovery is written
Most of our discovery was done without videotaping it because, as we learned, people are less comfortable being videotaped than they are in a simple interview. We also found that people would probably be more likely to say just what we wanted to hear when they were being videotaped and not actually give their honest opinions. We would rather write down what people say and refer back to it than have a video of people who might not be telling us everything. Also, sometimes we can forget to ask a question while we're filming, and might refrain from asking once we've stopped filming, but when you're just talking, you are under no time constraints.

Customer Discovery - 09/21/12
On September 21st, after our Entrepreneurship class, the three of us walked around and talked to people about our social entrepreneurship idea. We talked to around 20 people that day, which was comprised of about six or seven groups of three or four people and a couple individuals. We got great responses on the idea to sell a product and donate half of the profit to charity. At this point, we still didn't know what charity to donate to or what product to sell. The first group we spoke to gave us the idea to donate to cancer research and almost every group gave the same answer. There was one gentleman at the bus stop who was very supportive of our troops and wanted us to donate the money to them. Some other answers we got were to donate to the homeless. We also asked if they would prefer we give to a local or national charity. A couple people said they wanted us to give to a local charity, so they could see the benefit right there, but many people said a national charity would be better because of the name recognition. We also asked people about the products that we should sell. At this time we were asking about bracelets and maybe water bottles. One female that we talked to said that "if I am at a football and game and I forget my sunglasses and I see people selling them, I will definitely buy a pair." This is what gave us our initial idea to sell sunglasses. We also got very good feedback on water bottles. The majority of people said that they would pay between $10 and $15 dollars for a water bottle or between $5 and $10 dollars for sunglasses. Every single person we talked to said that they would be more inclined to spend more on a product if they knew that part of the profits would be getting donated to a good cause. Overall, this day of customer discovery definitely set us on the right track
